This is a short but interesting walk around Hawthorn Dene. In early spring look out for the carpets of snowdrops in the woods, later there will be wild garlic and bluebells.

This is a short walk from the car park next to Helmsley Castle. This is good for a short winter day or a longer day if you want to explore the ruins of the castle and then walk over to Rievaulx Abbey and explore it too. There is a good cafe at Rievaulx Abbey and a good selection of shops in Helmsley.

A circular route which can be done in either direction. As described it leaves Malham village on the good paths to the popular Janet's Foss waterfall, then it takes the quiet road past the entrance to Gordale and up the hill until a track leads to the summit of Weets Top. The gentle descent of Calton Moor provides a different landscape and views over to Rystone Fell and Cracoe Fell. More quiet roads allow you to take in the pretty villages of Calton and Airton before following the riverside path back to Malham passing, Hanlith Hall and Aire Head, which is the source of the river Aire.

An interesting circular walk from the delightful village of Malham. Up through the pasture below Pikedaw Hill to the well mark footpaths that lead across to Langscar Gate and then Malham Tarn, which is a great place to pic-nic. The return leg is via the dry valley of Watlowes to Malham Cove with its spectacular limestone pavement. Descend via the well made steps and then the less trodden footpath to the East of the village.

A fairly short but interesting circular walk starting from the parking at Kildale Station. It ascends via a private road and then along a track through the woods to emerge on the moor top near to Capt. Cooks Monument. The walk then descends through the woods and contours along the bottom of the hill before descending again to follow the side of the River Leven, passing a waterfall before joining the road back to Kildale.

A pleasant circular walk starting and finishing at Barnard Castle. It follows the Teesdale Way on the south side of the River Tees and crosses the river via a footbridge north of Cotherstone village. It then heads back on the opposite side of the river. The walking is mostly flat and passes through farm land and riverside woodland.

A pleasant circular walk starting and finishing at Eggleston Hall Nursery and Cafe. It follows the Teesdale Way on the north side of the River Tees and crosses the river via a footbridge north of Cotherstone village. It then heads back on the opposite side of the river to pass through the delightful village of Romaldkirk before the final leg back to Eggleston Hall. (It can also be started from Romaldkirk or Cotherstone)

This is an interesting walk which starts in Stanhope and passes through the west end of the town to Stanhope Hall and then ascends the pleasant dene. After crossing the beck the path passes below old limestone quarries to the remans of the fluorspar plant before ascending to the Park Plantation and following the boundary wall of Stanhope Park, the return leg passes through pleasant farmland to the dene and back into Stanhope.

This is a short, low level walk that can fill a couple of hours. Good if you are short on time or if it has been raining most of the day and has cleared up in the late afternoon. Nice views over the lake and interesting scenery. (It is the sister walk to another which starts from Patterdale)

This is a lovely circular walk with continued interest and some great views over Ullswater. You will take in the dramatic Aira Force and upper cascades, then climb to the summit of Gowbarrow Fell where there are great views.
The descent is more gradual and passes the remains of an old shooting lodge before arriving at another great view point at Yew Crags. The return gives good views and the interesting Lyulph's Tower.

A short and interesting walk to the top of Gowbarrow Fell via Aira Force. This is an out and return walk but uses paths on either side of Aira Beck to maintain interest and give different views of the waterfalls and cascades. It is useful for a short weather window if you want to stretch your legs and you get a couple of hours of dry weather between the rain. (A longer walk around the fell is also available here.)

This is a nice circular walk which seems shorter than it is. The walk starts in Stanhope and explores Ashes Quarry before heading up to Crawleyside Incline, where the limestone from the quarry was taken on its journey to the Consett Iron Works. The walk then cuts away to pass beside Millstone Quarry and to the top of Collier Law, before descending around the rim of Fatherley Plain to Fatherley Hill Currick. The route then heads back to Stanhope via Shittlehope Edge and Burn.

This is half of the classic Coledale Horseshoe walk. It ascends the magnificent Grisedale Pike and Hopegill Head before descending over Sandhill to Coledale Hause and then taking the path down to the Force Crag Mine track in Coledale for the return leg. It passes next to Force Crag Mine and if you check with the National Trust you could time this walk with the option to tour the mine buildings.

This is a very pleasant walk which is not too demanding in terms of length, ascent or navigation. It follows good tracks over the moors, quiet farm roads and has one section over the moor on a narrow path through the heather. Varied scenery, great views from the top of Hawnby Hill and a lovely country pub en-route.

This is a circular walk based on trail 5 as promoted by the Arêches tourist board. It is well marked with yellow signs and paint flashes or markers for trail 5. There are good views over to Mont Blanc, the Beaufortain Mountains and the lake, although small, is a nice place to eat your sandwiches.

A lovely circular walk for a half day out which is good if the weather is forecast to deteriorate in the afternoon. It can also be extended if you want a longer walk. Amazing views from the top of Plan Monnay.

A circular walk from Champex Lac; ascending via the Bisses to the Arpette valley and then taking the path uphill through forest to the Col de la Breya. Then descending and joining the path to the Cabane d'Orny (refreshments available). The descent is via the path back to the La Breya chair lift taking in an optional ascent of La Breya.

This is a variation on the Sentier Le Belvedere walk which is described in the Pays du St-Bernard tourist booklet.

A Circular Walk with a short ascent of Latterbarrow that rewards you with great views of the Lake District's mountains and then a descent through woodland to pick up the lakeshore path to Wray Castle. This is a real treat for National Trust Members (non members can pay to get in) but even if you don't want to visit the castle the grounds are a good place to picnic. Return via the lakeshore path and then gradually up and through the forest to descend again to Hawkshead.

A half day, circular walk which takes in the three summits of the north facing ridge which runs from Lordstones to The Wainstones. It returns via the path which runs below the ridge and finishes at the Lordstones cafe.

On this circular walk you will be rewarded with a lovely ascent up the small but beautiful Ard Crags, followed by an undulating ridge to Knott Rigg. The descent from Knott Rigg keeps to the top of a second ridge with good views ahead. The last section takes in farmland paths and tracks before joining the road.

An interesting low level walk with the opportunity to explore old mine workings as an option. The walk takes in farmland paths and tracks and ventures above the fell wall to the dam and reservoir built by the miners. Even if you choose not to venture into the mine tunnels finding the entrances is mini adventure. Newlands Church is lovely and adds further interest to the walk.

This is a circular walk from Elterwater which crosses Lingmoor before descending to Blea Tarn and then returning via Great Langdale. There are great opportunities for photography; from the snake like wall running across Lingmoor, the Langdale Pikes and reflections in the lake at Blea Tarn, plus the rural scenery in Great Langdale on the return leg.

A varied walk taking in woodland, a quarry, farmland, the open fell side and finishing beside a river with a waterfall and then the lake side at Elterwater.

This is a companion route to Birks, St. Sunday, Cofa Pike, Fairfield, Hart Crag & return via Dovedale as it offers a safe way off the mountain should you need a plan B or if you want a walk with less ascent. It is still a great walk in its own right and the descent of Grisedale is a nice contrast to the ascent of St Sunday Crag.

A lovely amble around the Southern Eastern shore of Ullswater with great views. An excellent family walk if combined with the Ullswater Steamer from Glenridding.

This is a great circular walk, taking in some of the higher tops and with a descent via the tranquil and less frequented Dovedale.

A circular walk from Patterdale which ascends gradually to take in the great views from Angletarn Pikes and The Knott before passing over the Straits of Riggingdale to High Street and The Beacon at Thornwaite Crag. It then descends Threshwaite Cove to Hartsop and a return to Patterdale.

A short and enjoyable walk from Bowes Museum to Egglestone Abbey, following the River Tees. At the time of writing (July 21) Bowes Museum is still operating a time ticket entry. If you time your visit correctly you can combine a visit to the museum followed by the walk or vice versa. Please note the gates to the museum close at 5:00. If you think you will arrive back later then park your car outside the museum grounds.

A nice circular walk taking in Pen-y-Ghent and returning to Horton in Ribblesdale with regular views of the Settle to Carlisle Railway.

An enjoyable circular walk taking in the good views from Roseberry Topping, The Hanging Stone and Highcliff Nab with a return across Great Ayton Moor. From Great Ayton drive past Gribdale Terrace and park at the col between Cpt' Cook's monument and Roseberry Topping.

This is an ascent of the South ridge of Bla Bhienn starting from and returning to Elgol. It includes the cliff top walk to Camasunary Bay, followed by the ridge. The views are spectacular and the ridge is one of the most memorable mountain days to be had.

This is a circular walk from the lovely village of West Burton. The start has all the uphill and can be steep but the steep part is short lived. The views are great and there is some interest on the way around with the old lime kiln and the ruins of the Knights Templar chapel.

A nice circular walk from Malham in a westerly direction towards Settle and then curving north past Attermire Scar with a detour to explore Victoria Cave. The loop returns towards Malham via Malham Cove. Interesting and varied scenery throughout the walk and mostly on well maintained paths or tracks.

This is a circular walk around High Spy, Maiden Moor and Cat Bells. The scenery is good and the walk is made interesting by the old mine workings, both on the way up and also at Goldscope Mine. The return leg, through the woods above Derwent Water, is a nice contrast to the first half of the walk.
It is a useful walk when the tops are in mist and walking the ridge would give you no views or when the tops are covered in snow and you don't have ice axe and crampons to hand.

A short and fairly easy, circular walk up the ever popular Cat Bells. Starting from parking on the roadside just outside the village of Grange, this walk ascends Cat Bells from the South and descends north to join paths through the parkland and woods above and beside Derwent Water.

This is a circular walk that is useful for a day, perhaps when it has been raining and then cleared up a little, but the high fells are still shrouded in cloud. There is enough changing scenery to maintain interest, with Millican Dalton's cave, farmland scenery and the summit of Castle Crag. There are also opportunities for refreshment stops along the way if needed. A nice walk for the whole family.

A lovely walk with changing landscapes and panoramas. From the quiet and scenic Crummack Dale, via limestone escarpments and limestone pavement, you will join the three peaks path to the summit of Ingleborough where you will be rewarded with excellent views on a clear day. The return leg is via the pothole of Gaping Gill and the gorge at Trow Gill before crossing back into Crummack Dale.

A circular walk around the countryside West of Rievaulx Abbey, passing the fish ponds that were established by the monks, the lovely village of Old Byland and its ancient church, then Caydale Mill and the valley that returns to the River Rye and the emerging views of Rievaulx Abbey.

A nice walk taking in the ever popular Lion and Lamb rock formation at Helm Crag before following the ridge walk with great views to the head of Easedale and then descending more gently down the lovely valley, passing some waterfalls.

This is a short walk with a lot of interest. Despite it not tackling any of the major Lakeland summits the views over Loughrigg Tarn are excellent and the panorama from Loughrigg Fell is one of the best. The descent through the arboretum of High Close and Low Wood maintains the interest. This is a great walk for a half day, perhaps when it has rained and then has started to brighten up.

This is an interesting walk from Elterwater or Chapel Stile.

A fabulous circular walk starting from the Tilberthwaite Valley. Best done in this direction so as to enjoy the ascent of Wetherlam Edge, great views in all directions and much interest on the walk.

An easy circular walk around the historic Lambton Estate.

An easy ramble around Derwent Reservoir from Pow Hill Country Park to the Millstone Picnic area and back. Very easy walking, well signposted and with well maintained paths. Popular with day trippers, take a picnic.

A flat out and return along National Cycle Route 1, starting from Castle Eden and going North to Ryhope, then returning via the same route. This is a companion ride to Castle Eden Walkway : https://www.visorando.co.uk/walk-castle-... although not as scenic.

An easy circular walk with the option to explore the Roman fort at Housesteads. The walk takes in some of the best preserved sections of the wall with great views over the dramatic landscape.

An easy circular walk to Dunstanburgh Castle from Embleton Village via the beach in Embleton Bay and returning on quiet farm roads. This walk has a little more interest than its companion walk from the ever popular Craster.
