10 - The Hohneck - The Frankenthal-Missheimle National Nature Reserve

Observe the chamois in the Wormspel, soak your feet in the clear waters of lake Schiessrothried and appreciate the beauty of the Frankenthal-Missheimle nature reserve. And, if possible, stop at a farm-guesthouse for an excellent day!

As a variation of this hike, go via the Col de Falimont, where you can find practical information.

Description

The Hohneck car park, coordinates: N 48° 02' 16" E 7° 00' 56"

From the car park, go south until you reach the starting point (S).
From the starting point (S), follow the marked path red/white rectangle and/or yellow cross west-southwest until the intersection (1).
At the intersection (1) of four tracks, take the track marked blue triangle descending in an east-southeast direction until the start of the dam(2).
When you reach the dam(2), follow the marked path blue rectangle in a north-easterly direction to the end of the dam(3).
At the end of the dam,(3) ignore the trail marked with a red rectangle climbing up, and follow the trail marked blue rectangle in a south-easterly direction.
At the intersection (4) follow the trail marked blue rectangle in a north-easterly direction (towards Le Gaschney).
At Le Gaschney(5) follow the trail marked blue rectangle in a north-north-westerly direction.
End of the passable trail (6) and the beginning of a narrower track around the side of the mountain. Follow the blue rectangle markers going north.
At the end of the narrow track on the side of the mountain(7) follow the blue rectangle markers in the direction the Frankenthal guesthouse (8) in a north-northwest direction.

From the Reserve, retrace your steps until the previous intersection (7), then follow the trail marked red triangle climbing west-southwest until the col/crossroads (9).
When you get to the col(9) go in a westerly direction climbing on the trail marked red rectangle up to the summit of the Hohneck (E).

Attention, from point(1) to point(2) the track is narrow, steep and windy. This section may not be suitable for beginners and requires suitable walking shoes.

Attention, from point(6) to point(7) is a narrow, windy track and requires suitable walking shoes.

During the descent, between points(1) and(2) observe the chamois (Hohneck side).
