Ben Vane, Inveruglas

Ben Vane is the smallest of the 282 Munros and it is renowned for its many false summits which lure you into a false sense of achievement! In clear weather you will be rewarded with extensive views across the Arrochar Alps, Loch Sloy, Loch Lomond and far beyond across the peaks of the southern Highlands.

View from summit

Description

Start: Inveruglas car park. (G83 7DP) Grid ref. NN 32266 09871

(S/E) Starting at Inveruglas car park, turn left (South-West) to walk along the path next to the A82.

(1) After 700m take the way-marked track on your right (West) heading uphill and away from the village.

(2) Follow this road for 2.3km (to 155m elevation) at which point turn left (South-West) to cross the Inveruglas Water. Take care not to turn left too early - you want to take the second left, with the first being the route for the Three Lochs Way.

(3) After 500m (at 200m elevation) come off this road onto a hillside trail on your right. It starts off heading West then South-West, uphill on steep ground.

The path then takes a general North-West direction, continuing up very steep hillside, with some scrambling required in places.

(4) The summit is reached at 916m elevation, after lots of false tops. The summit itself is wide and flat - take care in bad visibility not to lose your sense of direction for the descent.

Descend East then South-East via the same route back to Inveruglas car park (S/E)

Terrain
A fairly long, easy walk in from Inveruglas quickly gives way to a steep ascent with some scrambling necessary. Exposed mountain path. It is recommended to carry a paper map for the area and a compass.

Touristic walk to Beinn Narnain and the Cobbler. The Cobbler summit has a very distinctive shape and is classified as a Corbett and Marilyn summit. Beinn Narnain is classified as a Munro and Marilyn summit. This is a circular walk starting from Succoth car park. There are some scrambling to reach the summit of Beinn Narnain and the Cobbler.

Walking From Inverarnan to Bridge of Orchy, West Highland Way

This 4th section of the West Highland Way (WHW) goes first along Falloch Riverside, then goes through a beautiful forest before going to the bottom of high hills. On this walk, you will encounter many bridges, including two of them that have been damaged during recent floods. Detours have been set and a fording site... quite refreshing.

This long section can be shortened by using public transport on the last part, from Tyndrum to Bridge of Orchy.
