(S) Taking the footpath alongside the road from the Haven towards St Helens, away from Bembridge, follow the blue Coast Path signs.
(1) Once you have crossed the Yar River, the footpath swings to the right, away from the main road, around the back of the disused St Helens mill. Join the causeway over Bembridge Harbour towards the Duver. At low tide, this encourages many wading birds and we even spotted a curlew hovering overhead last year.
(2) Rather than heading straight for the ‘flag’ of the Duver cafe, veer right at the end of the causeway as though you are circumnavigating the harbour. Walking along the shoreline towards the ruins of St Helens church, a delectable mix of old railway carriages have been ‘shunted’ together making a formidable row of beach huts.
(3) Although there is a narrow road which takes you up the hill to St Helens, behind the cafe lookout for footpath R88, which takes you more pleasantly through woodland up to St Helens. Once on to the green, The Vine soon comes into your site on the right hand side.(E)
