Description

Park your car at Speech House Woodlands car park.

(S/E) Head to the end of the car park (North East) and go straight ignoring "Sculpture Trail" signpost. Then, keep the large path that goes left at forks ignoring paths on your right.

(1) When you reach a perpendicular track, go straight for 600 metres following yellow arrows and Gloucestershire Way until you reach a gate. Go through this gate and bear slightly left to the grassy path. At the next fork, turn again left still following the yellow arrow sign.

(2) Past a second gate, continue straight (yellow arrow) entering the woods. Walk this main path for 650 metres before you reach a junction. Turn right (yellow arrow) for a few metres before you take a road on the left.

(3) Continue this road, cross the cycle route and turn right immediately. Walk the track for 500 metres before you join a fork. At this fork, ignore the yellow arrow and Gloucestershire Way on your left but continue straight ahead! Then, turn right at the next fork and continue straight ignoring a track on your right a bit later. Go straight ignoring both right and left paths.

(4) The track finally bends right and leads to a junction with three ways. Take the track in the middle and after a small ascent for 350 metres, bear left at the right angle. At the next t-junction, turn right until you cross the cycle route.

(5) Continue up until the path joins a nice viewpoint. You can see Cinderford far away! At the top, follow the main track in front of you which reaches a gate after 200 metres. Turn immediately left past the gate.

(6) At the crossroads, follow the concrete road which goes down on your left and descend this road (with a yellow arrow sign) for almost 600 metres. Turn right when you reach a perpendicular track and follow this way before you turn left to the footpath with the yellow arrow. Take the path (can be very muddy after wet conditions!) until you cross a small footbridge close to Woorgreens Lake.

(7) Walk along the lake by the left side until you join "Woorgreens Nature Reserve" map. From this point, leave the edge of the lake turning left until you bear right at the large path.

(8) Go straight ahead until you see "New Leaf Social Forestry Project" buildings on your left. Take the left track past the entrance and follow "Sculputre Trail" arrow which leads to the car park.(S/E)

This is a super walk, in really interesting woods - easy walking.

Twice though the directions asked us to turn immediate left or right after a crossroad or gate and on each occasion we took the path to find that the correct path in each case was 50 yards further on.

We added over a mile to the walk because of this -- frustrating.

The numbers on the walk where this happened are (3) - in the first line - and at the tail end of (5) - in each case go on for 50 yards or so to get the correct path.
