Description

(S/E) Turn off Chelford Road and park on the lane towards Little Moss Farm. Walk towards the farm and turn right down the footpath which has been diverted around the farm. Follow the path to the other side of Little Moss Farm and then across the middle of the field. Turn right before the hedge staying within the same field at the intersection of two footpaths and continue on until you see the stile into Wilmslow Golf Course.

(1) Carefully cross the golf course and turn right at Warford Lane.

(2) Continue to Knutsford Road and turn right. After a short walk, turn right down the public footpath into what looks like a private driveway. Follow the footpath to Foden Lane and turn right towards Grange House Farm.

(3) Turn right towards the farm and veer left across a couple of fields back to the track near Little Moss farm.

(4) Turn left at the track and back to the start of the walk.(S/E)

The problem that I've got with this walk is that it is not "easy" as described. The start point is a little green triangle in front of an imposing set of iron gates that reek "STAY OUT" and the lane to Little Moss Farm is very tight so there is possibly room enough here for two cars or three Minis . So not wishing to get the car scraped, I decided to look for a parking space later in the walk so I circled round to point 1(Warford Lane) the exit point from Wilmslow Golf Club., hoping to find somewhere there. Warford Lane is a busy road with farm traffic and golfer's 4x4s and there is little in the way of "on road" parking, so I drove on to point 2(Knutsford Road). When I got to the junction of Warford Lane and Knutsford Road, I realised that a significant part of this walk is along this dangerous, busy, country lane - not mentioned at all in the description.
Then could I find the "private driveway" that was "a short walk " down the busier Knutsford Road ? Knowing how "welcoming" (sic) the local Cheshire set can be to strangers walking down their driveway, I could have done with a bit more description or location about this particular point in the walk. Of course a reader's comment might be that I had compass points to guide me but seriously, would you think to need one for a walk described as a "lovely walk around the Wilmslow Golf Course from Chelford Road to Knutsford Road" ?? And designated as a Difficulty level of "Easy" !!!! I would definitely treat with caution any future walks described by this walker as "Easy"
