Description

(S) Starting from Cornwood Square head South-East on Bond Street. At end of the village cross Langham Bridge (old stone bridge).

(1) Approx 25m after the bridge, turn left onto a footpath through a wooden gate. Follow the path across a stile and a lane, passing a pond on right, to a gate. Go through the gate to cross a small stream. Go up stone steps to cross a stile.

Follow the direction sign across fields to a fence. Turn left to follow the fence to a large wooden gate on the right. Go through a gate keeping the fence on your left and after about 100m follow the path to the left and cross a stile. Continue a short distance to the gate onto the lane.

(2) Turn left onto the lane and turn left at a T junction at top of the hill (Signed 'Hangar Cottage'). Follow the lane approx 250m to a permissive footpath on the right.

(3) Turn right (East) onto a permissive footpath and climb up the rocky lane (muddy in wet weather). Continue up the lane between stone walls, through gates, until the lane emerges onto Hanger Down.

(4) Cross the stile and follow the path to the right (South-East) towards a copse of trees in the distance (Hanger Down Clump).

(5) Before reaching the clump you will cross a path marked at approx 50m intervals by low, blue-tipped, wooden posts. Turn left and follow the line of posts across Hangar Down heading North. At end of the line of posts pass through a wooden gate and continue on the lane until the path crosses a road.

(6) Turn left onto the road and continue for about 100m to a metal gate leading into a field on the left.

(7) Go left (West) through the gate into a field, keeping to the right. After 25m go through a wooden gate onto the stone walled footpath. Follow the stone-walled path downhill. Continue down the walled lane to a wooden gate. Go through the gate and continue on the lane to a second wooden gate at a lane.

(8) Pass through the gate and cross a lane to the stile opposite. Cross the stile into a field. Following the footpath signs cross-field to a metal gate. Go through the gate to cross a second lane. Go through a wooden gate opposite another field. Keep to the left with a stone wall on your left. Cross stile to another field. Keep on the left to a wooden gate at end of the field.

Pass through a wooden gate, turn left and then immediately go through the metal gate on to the lane. Turn right and walk to Hangar Cottage. (3) Take the right turn after Hangar Cottage and retrace the route back to Cornwood Square on the same path as the one you took previously.
