Description

(S/E) From the car park walk South to access the lakeside. When you reach the lake, turn right (South-West) with the lake on your left-hand side and a tiny river on your right. Carry on straight along the lake.

Eventually, you will reach a gate on your right-hand side. This is a detour to Carlswood Lakes craft center. Turn right here if you wish to visit the center otherwise carry straight on.

(1) When you reach a junction, turn right. Then, carry straight on until you see a wooden footbridge on your right-hand side. Cross it then keep straight West. Always keep your left-hand side (West) into the woodland ignoring any path going right. Do not worry if you walk into the woods for quite a while.

(2) At some point, you will reach an obvious junction where you turn left (South-West) over a tiny footbridge and another one over a weir.

When another tiny footbridge crosses your way, turn left (South-East) with the weir on your left-hand side and some meadows. Carry on straight. At some stage, you will reach a fence, follow it, keeping it on your left-hand side as the path curves to the right. As the path curves, you will reach the railway on your left-hand side on the top of the hill. You are now going West. Always keep the left paths when you see any junctions, keeping the railway on your left-hand side. Carry on the same way until you see an obvious footbridge on your left going over the railway line.

Turn left and go up the steps to cross over the railway on this safe footdrige. Here you can spot some trains if you are lucky enough. When you are down the other side, turn straight away left (South-East) with the railway on your left-hand side. Cross a wooden footbridge over the weir. At the junctions, always keep the railway line on your left-hand side. Keep on the most obvious path into the woodlands. Sometimes, some trees can be on the way, the path is not that obvious so try to find your way with the railway line on your left-hand side. At some point, your will spot an iron cabin on your left and a river on your right.

(3) Pass in front of the iron cabin with the river always on your right-hand side. You will get through a rocky path. on the way past a structure made with bricks, a tunnel going bringing the water under the railway. Just after, you reach an iron gate on your right, do not turn, carry straight on uphill to reach the railway. Cross the train tracks with extra care (Stop, look, listen and beware of trains)

When you go down the other side, you reach an iron gate. Take the obvious path toward the lake (North-East). You will reach a wooden stile and a gate with a wooden footbridge to cross the river. Take this footbridge. At the T junction, turn right (East) with the river on your right-hand side and the lake on your left. Carry straight for quite a while.

(4) Until you reach a junction with a path going left across the lakes and a car park on the right. Here is a shortcut. Go straight with the lake still on your left. After some house on your right, you cross a tiny footbridge to reach a road. Here you can extend your walk straight ahead around the other lake otherwise turn left onto the pavement. Many safety areas are located on the road to let the car go through. When the lake curves left, you get to a viewing area on both lakes. Here you have two options, or you carry on left (North-West) onto the road or you take the tiny footpath along the lakeside. At the end of the lake (with a tiny house in front of you), turn left (South-West), then right to go back to the starting point at the car park. (S/E)
