(S) From the Limekiln Gill car park follow Cotsford Lane until you reach the England Coast Path, take the right-hand footpath which skirts the promontory.
Continue following this footpath (there are numerous) to the footbridge across the stream or the ford if there is no water here.
(1) After the footbridge go through the gap in the wall and turn left.
(2) Follow the footpath down the steps around the top of the cliffs. Continue around the cliffs following Durham Coastal path until you reach a fork in the road.
(3) Follow the left fork to go down to Blackhall Rocks beach and stay on the right-hand fork to continue on the path to Blue House Gill.
(4) At the next junction, here the path veers inland to skirt the deep ravine (Blue House Gill) and then turns back to the cliff tops. Always keep left following Durham Coastal Path.
(5) You will reach a picnic site and car park here (Blackhall Rocks). Continue to follow the footpath towards Crimdon. Here again, the footpath veers inland sharply to skirt the deep ravines.
(6) There are a number of steps here crossing Cross Gill. When you reach the railway bridge, turn left and follow the narrow path alongside Limekiln Gill onto an open grassed area. The path then heads back to the coast skirting a holiday park.
(7) The path here turns into a paved footpath. Continue straight along the path to Crimdon car park. (E)
