A lovely varied circular walk taking in part of Savernake Forest and Kennet and Avon Canal.
(D/A) Head North up High Street to Stibb Green and fork right towards Durley. Go downhill then at the bottom continue up to the top of the hill.
(1) At the hilltop, turn left and follow the track (Lover’s Walk). Follow the field edge, with fine views southward to Burbage and surrounding countryside. Upon reaching woodland follow the track through the woods. Continue downhill until you near the road and there is a right turn. Follow this track along the field edge. Can be overgrown in summer. Upon reaching a broad track turn left and left again onto the unsurfaced road. Continue past a few houses on left.
(2) On reaching the A346 cross over to pick up a path directly opposite. Keep on this until you reach the lane which goes to Wootton Rivers. Turn left and follow the lane downhill. Where the lane turns sharply right bear left onto a lane which goes down to the canal.
(3) Upon reaching the canal, turn left. Just past some woodland take a stile on the right to cross the railway via a pedestrian level crossing. Once safely over this, follow the path into the woods and turn left. On leaving the wood, continue along the left edge of a large field. At the end of it, turn right to continue following the edge of it. Continue following field edge bearing right past house gardens. Shortly there is a path signed to the left. Take that to reach Ram Alley.
(4) On reaching the road, turn left and walk a short distance till you reach a small path to the right. Follow this through a muddy patch, which soon opens onto a field, and you follow the path to the left with field edge on your right. On reaching a broad track, turn right and follow this uphill passing horses fields. It joins a lane coming from the right. Carry straight on and you soon reach Westcourt. Turn left to return to Burbage. At T junction turn right to reach (D/A)
