Park in the village being respectful of locals
(S/E) From the junction at the Green Garage area of the village turn onto the road signposted Glaisdale Hall Lane and walk up past the hall to the end of the metal road. (Alternative parking is available here roadside.)
(1) Pass through the gate at the end of the black top road continue on moorland track passing a junction on your left before reaching a crossing of paths, take the distinct moorland road to your right following the contour and keeping to the lane head towards the summit of Glaisdale Rigg passing several junctions off to either side. The summit is clearly visible as will the summit cairn be when it comes into view.
(2) Follow the footpath going off to your left just before the road is reached the summit cairn is only 100m to your right and wor the visit for a summit photograph.
(3) Returning to the footpath going off the ridge to your left it appears very distinct, don't let this fool your peters out soon entering boggy heather, a compass bearing from (2) to (3) is the easiest way to navigate, you will find it to be 108 degrees, you drop off the fell down to a gate in the corner of the field directly ahead of you will be London house farm, pass this gate and take the distinct track on your left passing two fields to come out onto a blacktop road.
(4) Take the road to your left passing London House farm for 200m to a footpath on your right, climb the stile entering the field, following the footpath hugging the wall to your right cross into another field keeping on the same bearing to cross a second field before going over a bridge over a stream, the path swings left then right through a meadow before entering a fenced lane to the left of Nab End holiday cottages.
(5) Crossing the road at Nab End the footpath climbs towards forestry, reaching the edge of the forestry it swings left climbing upwards, you pass a gate and track leading off to your right and continue climbing on the well defined path which swings left until you return to the edge of the forest with a gate locked in front of you. from here the footpath swings off to the right before taking a left and crossing through a gate in a wall, continue climbing gradually after 1km cross a stream at Wintergill and take the footpath your left reach a moorland road.
(6) Turning left onto the road follow it for around 1500m to take the footpath at the end of the forest.
(7) Follow this rack downhill passing on turning of two your left before crossing another footpath, on reaching a wall turn right and follow that wall down to a road at Gill Beck Farm. Crossing the road directly onto another footpath running along a wall to your left, keeping the wall to your left cross through three fields before crossing a footbridge over a stream and climb up again following a wall to your left passing through Plum Tree farm and enter the main road 500m directly ahead.
(8) Turn left along the road for 100m before taking the footpath on your right back onto the fell.
(9) Follow this track off to the right keeping the wall to your right crossing a lane shortly after leaving the wall continue directly on to rejoin your outward route on the moorland lane.
(10) Turn right here retrace your earlier tracks downhill taking a left and right at the junctions to bring you back out on the blacktop road above Glaisdale hall, walk back to your car park.(S/E)
