Description

(S) From Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre, pass Paul Putz play area right to find a car park left. Enter the car park and go along the left edge to exit by a 5 bar metal gate to the well worn track. Go right on the track, past the car park and a second car park right.

(1) Stay ahead on the track. Here you have joined a long term waymarked and GPS updated diversion of the Millennium Way avoiding Cubbington and HS2. Not shown on OS maps. At the end of the track keep directly ahead following the waymarker on white post to enter what was a fairway on the former golf course.

Keep the same line ahead with woodland left to pass a small pond left and reach a cinder path with a wooden bench. Turn left along the cinder path and after 120 paces take the hedge gap right over the small stone bridge and stay ahead over field to gap. Go into the right field and stay ahead with the hedge left.

(2) Take the stile and go right for 200 yards with the hedge right, then 1/2 left towards a footbridge over River Leam. Cross over the footbridge then go right along the woodland footpath, with the river right, to cross over a second bridge and take stile adjacent to metal gate.

After 20 paces go right along track and keep left at the corner ahead following the track. Cross over a surfaced track ahead on the same line with the ditch right and wood left.

(3) At the end of the track turn right by the wooden fencing onto the surfaced driveway. As you reach the bend ahead turn left by the waymarker towards Offchurch. Stay along to corner of woodland then follow round with the woodland left to take a wide gap and a stile into the field. Follow the waymarker ahead over the field to exit by the far corner stile to the road.

(4) Turn right on the road and pass The Stag pub on your right and continue for 200 yards to take the road left towards Hunningham. Stay along road for 3/4 mile, crossing a traffic light controlled HS2 vehicle track, until you reach a farm driveway left opposite a bungalow named Ashlawns. Go down the driveway which veers right to pass the Fields Farm.

(5) Continue along the track which swings right and left to reach a junction of four paths past metal barns. Take the second path to go diagonally right (North-West) passing a small brick structure on your right next to two trees.

Stay along the rough track then bear right through the wide gated gap and once in the field bear left to take a footbridge over the river to enter short section of woodland.

(6) Exit the woodland and bear right uphill to take the gap at the junction of paths. Go right keeping the hedge right under power lines to reach a gap. 10 paces after passing under power lines take the gap right, enter the field and go with the hedge left parallel to the power lines.

Keep ahead with the hedge left, eventually to cross a track and go over the small stone bridge and through a kissing gate to a large field. Follow the waymarker to the top right of the metal gate/wooden bridge/metal gate. The diversion ends here.

(7) Cross the bridge, with a metal gate, leaving the farm on your right. Continue ahead up the field bearing a little left to avoid a large hollow in the field. Take the kissing gate in the mid hedge and continue ahead to another kissing gate, cross the field and exit by the kissing gate in the right hand corner, just to left of the booster station.

Exit onto the road and turn right. Cross the road bridge over River Leam into Hunningham. The lovely Red Lion pub is on your left.

(8) Opposite the pub, cross the stile and water meadow, with the river on your right. Ignoring the stile on the left, proceed to the kissing gate and go 1/2 left to pass to the left of the church and find a kissing gate to exit to the road. Go right and follow the road to a junction (Sunrise Cottage). Turn left and after 20 paces cross the road to enter a large field.

(9) Go with the hedge left for 35 paces then proceed right uphill and cross the stile at the top of the field. Continue through the gap in the hedge to cross a second tricky stile/bridge and angle slightly left uphill to reach an exit stile onto the road (by telegraph pole).

Turn right on the very busy road to shortly reach a cross roads and turn right. Here you are on the main Fosse Way for 400 paces, which is busy with lorries and cars. Hill Farmshop/Cafe is off on your right. Face the traffic and when it is safe cross the road to go left on the driveway opposite Hill Crest.

(10) This driveway becomes The Ridgeway - a very long, rough, sometimes muddy vehicle track, passing across the high bridge over the disused railway and ahead to eventually come to a tree lined lane leading to the main road. Cross the road and go ahead on the driveway to find the metal gate. Take the gate and go ahead downhill to a metal gate and the road.

(11) Go left on the road and after 500 paces find hedge a gap left adjacent to a telegraph pole. Take the gap and go 1/2 right across the field to find a mid fence hedge stile. Take the stile and go 1/4 right to exit the field by a corner hedge gap.

Ahead on the same line, under power lines, to the field corner edge. Go left, with the hedge right for 40 paces to find a rusty old kissing gate right. Take the kissing gate, cross over the disused railway, and find remnants of a further kissing gate.

(12) Take the kissing gate and ahead 20 paces to find a tubular bridge right. Take the bridge and follow the path through the wood with the river right (difficult path but always stay with the river right) to exit the wood to the field. Go right. After 140 paces find the kissing gate.

Take the kissing gate and turn left. Follow the edge of the field with the hedge left and fencing right. Towards the top of the field, by White Hall Farm (lovely B&B) left, go through a waymarked gap. Go ahead and take the kissing gate, keeping the fence right and building left, to exit by a metal gate and go ahead.

(13) At the end of buildings, by a pumping station take the metal gate and go 1/2 left across the field to take the right of two kissing gates leading to a passageway. Down the passage way to the road (Short Lane). Go right and take the first road right (Stonebridge Lane). Ahead on Stonebridge Lane round the bend and across the bridge over river.

(14) After the bridge take the kissing gate left. Go ahead across a large field to find a fence/ditch right and kissing gate hidden in a corner. Take the kissing gate / bridge / kissing gate and ahead with the fence left to take the kissing gate to the road. Turn left over the bridge and in 50 yards turn right to reach Holy Trinity Church in 100 yards. (E)
