The walk starts from Bell's Lane in Lydiate and follows clockwise circular route via disused railway lane and canal towpath. A possible brief detour to St Catherine's Chapel and the oldest pub in Lancashire, Scotch Piper.

Description
Parking available on Bell's Lane.
(S/E) Turn left on Bell's Lane and left again soon again. Turn right along the bank of Maghull Brook and then left to pass over the brook via the footbridge.
(1) Turn right along Green Lane and right again at the next intersection.
(2) Turn right on Trans-Pennine Trail. Head north for a while.
(3) When you meet Magull Hey Cop, turn right. Turn left onto Acres Lane, then right at the next junction. Keep going east until you reach Southport Road.
(4) Turn left on Southport Road North, then right on Hall Lane. At the next intersection, turn left on Eager Lane.
A brief detour is possible by turning right for 200m here to see St. Catherine's ruined chapel and the oldest pub in Lancashire : Scotch Piper.
(5) Leave the road and follow canal towpath to the right. Continue along Leeds Canal until you're back at the starting point.(S/E)
