Mont Ouzon, views of Lac Leman, Chablais & Mont Blanc Massifs

Starting in the abandoned ski resort of Drouzin le Mont in Col du Corbier, this is a moderate mountain climb winding through a forest section & alpine meadows before concluding with a short but challenging craggy rock face. The summit is sheltered by large rocks offering 360 stunning views of Lac Leman to the North and Mont Blanc to the South. It is not for the faint hearted, solo inexperienced or novice if a vertical rock scramble is not your thing, but the rest of hike is far more moderate.

Mont Ouzon summit

Description

(S/E) From the car parking of Drouzin le Mont, take the long metal staircase directly opposite which rises up from the main road (D32 - Route du Col) to the apartment blocks behind.

At the top of the stairs bear right and follow the Route d'Ouzon track which loops up behind the apartments.

(1) When the road bends left, take the path straight ahead. The forest track climbs steeply up passing a small chalet alpage in a clearing before bearing left and up to the Chalets d’Ouzon.

Past Chalets d'Ouzon, follow the track as it curls right to Col de Planchamp.

(2) From the Col you can take in some nice views down towards the Abondance valley before turning left up and onto the track behind the little picturesque chalet.

The track winds up further through the forest before reaching a lovely green alpine meadow just below the rocky summit.

A short scramble up and over the roots of a large tree that have grown over the eroded path leads you to the start of the chained rocky ascent to the summit. Negotiate your way up the craggy face of the rock towards the cross - there is a chain for your left hand.

(3) The final few yards of the climb involves a scramble between and over large boulders before reaching for the cross and officially summiting the mountain Mont Ouzon (1880m). It is only the final ascent to the summit that offers some challenge. After enjoying the view follow your steps backwards to the car park. (S/E)
