Description

(S/E)The start is the lay-by on the minor road just west of Hall Farm and Clippesby House (grid ref. TG420114). After parking, walk back down the lane passing Hall Farm and into Hall Lane. Follow this lane to a T-junction with Main Road. Cross with care and take the footpath opposite. This leads across a field to reach a track and parallel ditch. Turn right along this pathway and continue to Sandy Lane (grid ref. TG430137).

(1)Turn left along Sandy Lane and continue to reach a junction with the A1064. Go straight ahead along this busy road using the grass verge for safety. In just over 200 metres there is footpath on the right. Take this between two fields, through a hedge, across another field and finally through trees to reach a lane (grid ref. TG441134). Turn right along the lane and continue past a road coming in from the left to reach Willow Farm (grid ref. TG440129).

(2)Continue on the track beyond the farm passing a footpath on your left with a small footbridge. Shortly the track bends off to the right and you need to keep straight ahead following Muck Fleet. After a mile you reach New Road (grid ref. TG421116). Cross the road and continue alongside Muck Fleet for a further half a mile until you reach a concrete road (grid ref. TG421109). Do not be tempted to follow the concrete track, instead stay on the grassy path with Muck Fleet to your left. This path leads down to the River Bure (grid ref. TG421105) and a pumping station.

(3)Turn right up the River Bure (with the river to your left) and continue for about a mile and a quarter to Acle Bridge (grid ref. TG414116). For those in need there are public toilets here! The path turns right up to the often busy A1064 which must be crossed with care before returning to the riverside path again keeping the River Bure to your left. Two miles of steady walking along a section of the Weavers' Way take you past Clippesby Drainage Mill, the entrance to Upton Dyke and Oby Drainage Mill before you reach the entrance to South Oby Dyke (grid ref. TG407140). Here turn right and follow the dyke away from the River Bure.

(4)At the end of South Oby Dyke continue through the parking area to join a narrow lane. You are still on the Weavers' Way. In a short way you reach Harrison's Farm. Turn right through the yard and follow a clear track across a field to reach a lane at a sharp corner (grid ref. TG416146). Go straight ahead along the lane past Manor Farm Cottages on your left to arrive back at the start a short way ahead.
