An easy walk mainly on roadside pavements and green footpaths alongside field edges.
Calculated time is computed with the distance, the height difference, and an average speed of 2.2 mph. For an intermediate walker, this time includes small breaks.
Start at the Health Centre on New Street (pay & display parking nearby).
(D/A) Turn right and walk down Prospect Road. At the traffic lights, turn right into Towngate and walk as far as the petrol station. Turn left into Longlands Road. Walk straight ahead into Tumbling Close (cul-de-sac)
(1) Follow the fenced tarmac path between the houses at the top of the Close. Continue past the Primary School onto Milner Way. Follow the school perimeter fence and turn right between the end of the school fence and the industrial unit. Keep on the footpath, which now runs alongside the rear boundary of a housing estate. Follow the path round to the right, along the boundary of the houses.
(2) Continue on the path, past a small wood on your left. At the end of the wood, turn left and walk along the bottom of the wood. Take the first right and walk downhill to the tarmac path, turn right and walk over the wooden footbridge. Turn right and walk up a short grassy hill (you will see a small lake and a second footbridge over the stream below you on the left). Continue on the top footpath between the houses until it emerges onto Towngate.
(3) Turn right and follow the road back to the petrol station. Retrace your steps back to the Health Centre.(D/A)
