(S/E) Park on the high street in Owmby-by-Spital near the post box. From here, walk up Church Lane where you will see a public footpath on your left after approx 30 metres. Take this footpath between two houses and over the stile. Follow the path down the hill to the next stile which opens up onto the cricket ground.
(1) The footpath goes diagonally across the cricket ground, but please refrain from doing so. Keep to the left boundary and walk around the edge. Ignore the first public footpath (you will return on this path later) and walk an extra 50 metres where you will see a sign pointing South West over a small footbridge. Follow this footpath for approx 1 km until you meet a tarmac road (Saxby Cliff Road). Turn right onto the road and follow it for approx 1km.
(2) Turn left onto the bridleway and follow this South until you come to some farm buildings and a farm house. At the bridleway crossroads, turn left onto the permissive track towards West Firsby. If you look closely to either side of the track you may see some earth works which form the remains of the medieval village which dates back to 1066. Follow the track East through a series of bends until you reach a track junction at a farm gate. Turn left here and walk toward the low building near the overhead power lines. Continue past Top Farm where the track dog-legs.
(3) At the bridleway, turn left and head North toward Saxby where the small church is visible on the horizon. Descend down the slope and over the metal footbridge before ascending into the village. Pass through the kissing gates and past St Helen's church which is an unusual design with a semi-circular portico and a dovecote-like tower. The church was built in 1775 and is also a mausoleum for the Lumley Sanderson family; the Earls of Scarborough.
(4) Follow the footpath signs across the green and through the farm. When you reach Saxby Cliff Road, cross and continue North until you eventually reach the cricket pitch again (1). Re-trace your steps to the stile and cross the field to the next stile. At this point, you can either re-trace your steps to the start point or bear diagonally left up the slope to another stile which brings you alongside St Peter's church which is a blend of Saxon and Norman architecture, but with evidence of Roman remains on the site. Re-join Church Lane and turn right toward your start point. (S/E)
