The walk starts from Wayfarers pub Parbold and follows the clockwise circular route via Leeds Liverpool canal, Fairy Glen and Parbold Hill.

View from Parbold Hill

Description

Parking is available in Wayfarers Pub car park.

(S/E) Turn South into Bradshaw Lane. Take track East on the North side of the stables. After passing through the gate head North and take the track along South of the stream. Take the path North along the West side of the site of Douglas Church.

(1) Cross bridge over canal then North along Chapel Lane on way out.

(2) Take Wood Lane East.

(3) Keep heading East along the path. Follow the footpath East alongside the private track.

(4) Be very careful not to turn too soon for Fairy Glen wood. Continue along the track across two fields before getting into Fairy Glen, then follow paths North (Left-hand side) through Fairy Glen. Cross the footbridge and continue North along footpaths.

(5) At the junction with A5209, take the footpath West on the Northside of the road to the restaurant/pub opposite viewpoint. After admiring the view take track South downslope.

(6) Cross Wood Lane and follow the track South over the railway line to the canal on way back.

(7) Cross the footbridge to the towpath on the South of the canal, head west along the towpath until you reach (1). At the bridge leave the towpath and follow the path via the site of Douglas Church site and stables back to start.(S/E)

The instructions are average at best on this one - be very careful not to turn too soon for fairy glen. It’s says go into the woods after crossing a stile this is inaccurate and you need to continue along the track across 2 fields before you actually get into fairy glen
