Short wildlife walk near Quethiock

This wonderful short walk takes you down along a stream and up through the woods to Venn Farm. It is so peaceful. There's a little waterfall and a pond. We saw geese, newts and dragonflies, and in the woods we saw woodpeckers, and roe deer. Magical. It is a little overgrown in places and there is quite a steep climb as you leave the woods.

Description

(S/E) Follow the footpath sign as you enter the stable yard and keep left over the stile. Keep to the left hand side of the field as you cross it. Head towards the gate at the left hand side of the field. Once through the gate the path drops down a little to your right toward a small cottage. Continues straight across and drop down toward the stream. A small gate and wooden walkway take you across the stream to the other side.

(1) Head slightly right up the slope, and then at the house head right along the tree line to the woods.Go across the small bridge and follow the path through the woods. At the wood's edge, start to head away from the stream up toward the field gate slightly to your right. Walk toward the farm houses. Head up the driveway back to the country road.

(2) Turn right and head back to the start point.

During the walk or to do/see around

You may see deer, woodpeckers, pheasant and other wildlife. There is a stream, a small waterfall, a flooded quarry and a pond with frogs, newts and water birds. A barn owl was hunting at Trehunsey Barton as we passed. The Barton has some huge plastic animals in the garden which are quite funny. The barn owl flew out of a barn window with a plastic owl on the sill!
