Start: The Seacroft, Ravenspoint Road, Trearddur Bay LL65 2YU
(S/E) From the car park entrance of The Seacroft, turn right past Lôn Penrhyn Garw. Pass the first beach and at the second keep left of the roadside wall. Turn left into a lane (Porth Diana) with a footpath sign.
(1) At the top of the slope keep right, then turn left onto a footpath before a row of bungalows. Go through a gate into low heathland and follow the left-hand edge past an information panel and through a kissing gate. After another kissing gate leading into a grassy caravan site, bear right at a corner and pick up a path parallel to the wall on your right above a reedy pond; pass to the right of a house. Cross the road and take the footpath opposite across a garden and driveway then pass between hedges and walls to emerge at the end of a residential driveway. Follow the drive out to the road into Tyn Rhos Camping Site.
(2) At the campsite turn right. Then at a triangular junction, turn left and take the path signposted on the right. Follow the path alongside and between caravan parks then through a metal kissing gate into rocky heathland. Pass an old stone slab stile and cross a tumbledown wall with a waymark.
(3) Turn left off the obvious path. Follow a path below a house on the left, with a reedy wetland to your right, before swinging left to join a rough track by a telegraph pole. Turn right and follow the track to a gate, continuing onwards through a reedbed to a cottage. Follow the driveway for a further 500 yards, passing a smallholding, until you meet the metalled road.
(4) Cross over into the driveway opposite (with signs for Ty Sir and Pant Philip). Pass an entrance on the left and at the second property follow the footpath signs across the garden and in front of the house. Join a track beyond and follow it out to another road. Turn right and follow the road for nearly half a mile, passing the entrances to a farm on the right and to Bodior Farm Shop on the left.
(5) 100 yards after the Bodior Farm Shop, turn left through a gate onto a permissive path with a coast path sign (this path is officially closed during the winter, although the closure is not apparently enforced; to bypass this section, continue along the road to Pentre Iago Campsite and turn left then right, signposted ‘Silver Bay’. Rejoin the walk at point 6). The permissive path skirts a field with intermittent boardwalks to a ladder stile where it swings right over more boardwalks and through a copse. The path continues through alternating bracken and woodland to a lane; turn right to a junction.
(6) At the junction turn left (signposted ‘Silver Bay’). Follow the lane for ¼ mile to the entrance to Silver Bay Caravan Park, where you take the right-hand track through a gate. Pass an outdoor centre on the left then turn right through a gate (Cae Llyn); follow the footpath beyond the entrance to a junction of paths above the beach.
(7) Here you can either turn right (then turn left past the car park as the track shows) or continue to the beach and walk left along the sands. At the far end, turn left and climb the steps to a raised path. Drop back down to the beach and continue below houses before passing to the right of the Old Lifeboat House. The exact line of the path through the houses and gardens beyond this point was disputed at the time of writing; follow on-site signage until you emerge into a field below the coastguard tower.
(8) Climb, via a kissing gate, to the hilltop then bear left beyond the building, keeping left of a wall on the right, to St Gwenfaen’s Well. Continue round the rocky headland beyond, past some rocky inlets, to Porth Saint where you cross a stream.
(9) After the stream the coast path cuts the corner across the next headland before descending to a kissing gate and a rocky bay (with views on your left of the Bwa Du natural arch). Stay on the coast path past a waymark by a rocky outcrop to a kissing gate and pass through a gap in the wall and inland of a large house overlooking the sea.
(10) Beyond the gateway, turn left along the wall then follow the coast path to Porth y Garan. Beyond the beach the path follows a wall inland of a rocky promontory and then passes left of a large reedy pond before climbing to a kissing gate. Cross the service road and follow the Coast Path sign up a rocky slope beside the caravans opposite.
(11) Keep left, still following the coast path, at a waymark post marking a junction with another footpath, with views over a rocky inlet and caravan-dotted headland on your left.
(12) At a waymark post, ignore the coast path as it heads inland (an alternative route back to the Seacroft via the road), instead continuing along a permitted path ahead which descends round the head of a rocky inlet and then roughly follows a wall to a second rocky beach. Continue along the wall via a rocky scramble to an arch in a stone wall. Beyond this, continue above the foreshore then aim just left of a prominent bungalow to a stepped concrete wall, where an alleyway leads off right to a parking area.
(13) Turn right then left and follow the residential road as it curves right to the public road. Turn left past Porth Diana, keeping left of the concrete wall this time. For a straightforward return stay on the road, but for a last taste of the coastline turn left at some bollards (before a postbox) onto another permitted path that rounds the headland below garden walls and past a flagstaff. As you approach the beach, turn right onto a path that passes between gardens to a road.Turn left past the rear of The Seacroft and then left back to the pub entrance. (S/E)
