Description

Start at the Crosenna Alpe shelter (D). Head south-west passing by the path on the right goes directly to the Col de Malaure that was taken 2 days before. Cross the Crosenna then undertake a steady rise into the woods, then walk alongside it before descending slightly to cross one of the GR58 route variants.

(1) Turn right onto the GR route with Red and White markings and start an easy climb via the Comba dell Urina ending at the Col d’Urine.

(2) Cross the well-marked border at marker No. 45, and continue on a beautiful alpine downhill path keeping to the GR58 to reach the Bergerie sous Roche crossroads.

(3) Leave the GR that goes on the left and turn right on the right path that in the distance runs along the right bank of the Ruisseau d’Urine as far as the bridge.

(4) Cross this and continue on the downward path, come back to the first bridge of the day, the chapel and the car park.

During the walk or to do/see around

If you keep your wits about you, and you happen to be passing through at the right time, you might spot the striking black Lanza’s alpine salamander. It can be seen in the woods above the Crosenna alps.

2nd stage is entirely in Italy allowing you to walk alongside the many military buildings that protect the nearby border. The long descent before the shelter lets you enjoy the Italian pastures that appear much greener than the French. This is due to the more abundant moisture from this side of the border.
