(S/E) From The Pack Horse' front door, turn right and immediately right again beside the pub into the staff car park (with a footpath sign to Turton Road); leave via a footpath in the rear left-hand corner.
Follow this sunken footpath, stone-setted in parts, downhill with views to the Peel Monument above Ramsbottom and the wind turbines of Scout Moor. Keep straight on past Tom Nook farm buildings and follow the path alongside the farm drive out to Turton road.
(1) Turn left for 100 yards, then turn right at a double entrance signposted “Two Brooks Valley”. Take the right-hand of the two driveways (for the cattery). When the drive bends right towards the buildings, go through a gate on the left into the other driveway and follow it past a bungalow (Croichley View) and through Higher Barn farmyard.
(2) Beyond the barns, turn right over a couple of stiles and along a fenced path downhill. Beyond a further stile, walk down the right-hand side of the next field with a small valley on your right, threading in and out of the trees until you meet a crossing path above a large pond.
Turn left and follow the path to a gate, where you turn right along a track. At the end of this track, turn right on another track (Two Brooks Lane) passing below some tennis courts on your left.
(3) At a fork, leave the track along an obvious path on the left, which leads through woodland to a gate into more open country. Follow the path beyond to a ladder stile over a wall.
(4) Take the footpath left (North-East) uphill away from the brook (DO NOT cross the footbridge). When you arrive at a lane in Croichley Fold, turn right and take the footpath South-East. Carry straight in that direction until you reach Holy Mount Lane where you turn right (East).
At the first junction turn left (South) and when the lane turns left, take the footpath on your right (South-West-South). Go downhill here with some trees on your left-hand side. At the bottom, cross the brook and carry straight on into the woodland. When getting out of the woods, carry on South to a junction of the footpath where you turn left (South-East) to reach B6213.
(5) Cross over and take a footpath opposite that leads uphill between gardens and then emerges by a house. Take the tree-lined drive opposite, and when this bends right into a property, take the path on the left. Follow the field edge to a stile into another metalled drive; turn right (uphill) here.
(6) When this drive bends left, cross the stile in front of you then head half-left across the field, between a house on the left and a pylon. At the far side of the field, turn left. In the corner, turn right, and then cross a stile on your left.
The right-of-way follows the telegraph poles straight ahead to the farm (where it turns right), but an easier concessionary route heads half-right across the field to cut the corner before swinging left to bypass the farm. At a stone stile, keep straight on along the concessionary route, along the field edge to Watling Street.Turn right and walk past the chapel back to The Pack Horse. (S/E)
