Start : Wembury beach car park. OS Explorer map OL20. Grid Ref. SX517484
(S/E) Take the path at the far end of the car park which zig-zags up the hill.
(1) Go through the gate and continue up the slope. As the path heads back down, go through the gate and bear left along the top path, away from the worn path which leads to Season Point.
(2) Follow the path over a footbridge and through some gates towards Rocket Cottage.
(3) At this point, if you want to catch the seasonal ferry across the estuary take the path down to the right, or for a shortcut back to the village, take the path to the left. At the next fingerpost a short diversion straight ahead, signed to Warren Point and Ferry brings you to a bench from which is a panoramic view of the river and village. Then return to the fingerpost and follow the waymarked Thorn Path down into Clitters Wood, taking the upper route at the fork, which leads up out of the trees. Remain on this path up the hill and across the field.
(4) Head across the field towards the stone wall, then turn sharp left and follow the field edge and wall to reach the gates of a stock-handling area.
(5) Turn right and follow the track uphill, then round to the left and out onto Warren Lane. Turn right towards Wembury village. Remain on this path across the junction near the big barn.
(6) Take the unpaved green lane to your left, signed Brownhill lane. Follow it as it veers to the right and narrows to a shady path.
(7) Take the path to the left (signposted to church and beach), which skirts the village, running along the backs of houses and through a gate. Turn right through a second gate to cross 3 fields and emerge onto a lane. Turn left, then right onto a track which soon descends through a field towards St Werburgh’s Church. A gate leads onto the coast path and down to the car park.(S/E)
