Description

This Somerset walk starts from Tyntesfield, which is a large Victorian mansion in extensive grounds lying to the southwest of Bristol. The National Trust provide access to the house and grounds with extensive parking at Home Farm (grid ref. ST500717) which is reached off the B3128 Clevedon Road from Bristol.

(S/E)After parking, exit the car park and turn right following the road used for entry to the Tyntesfield Estate. After 400 metres you reach a footpath crossing the driveway (grid ref. ST501721). Turn left here and follow the path passing Sidelands Cottages on your right to enter woodland. Follow the track and descend to reach a lane (grid ref. ST492721) at Wraxall Hill.

(1)Turn left and continue along the lane to reach the B3130 with the parish church on your right just before the junction. Turn right along the B3130 and just after the school on your left take the signed footpath also on your left.

(2)The path crosses three fields with the hedge to your right before reaching Land Yeo stream. This is then followed for a further a further half a mile to reach a junction of footpaths just to the north of Brook Farm (grid ref. ST491705).

(3)Turn left here and continue in a northerly direction across fields to reach a cul-de-sac with houses either side. Follow this a short distance to reach the B3130. Turn left and almost immediately take the footpath on your right. This leads back to the car park used at the start of the walk.

A pleasant walk spoilt by short sections on very busy B roads with no pavements.

I followed this walk although I adapted it. Started at the Wraxall pub 'Battle Axes' which has huge car park and good food. We went onto B3130 turning left for very short distance; crossed the very busy road then took a pathway up the hill into Wraxall estate with lovely views across the fields at the top. When we met the Tarmac road we turned right following a path through the woods going around sw side of car park; this eventually meets a path going down the hill - turning right and then through a small hamlet coming out on B3130. Cross and go over style. We then went down hill and through Gable Farm turning left along the water meadows and round to meet the cycle path along the railway. Came back along that a little distance and then turned right down hedge bound track and back to south side of Gable Farm. Then across the fields and cutting up to the pub. All the rights of way and paths are shown on the Hikideas map
